Sustainability
Collecting, separating, and discarding

Introduction

The recycling of plastics has been complicated in practice by a number of hurdles, including the difficulty of clearly identifying the complex trajectories traversed by items on their way to being recycled and the difficulty of scientifically verifying claims regarding the recycled-material content of final products.

As a tool for addressing such issues and laying the groundwork for future circular economy, Asahi Kasei is developing the BLUE Plastics platform for visualizing material cycles for discarded plastics.

Asahi Kasei is committed to developing material cycles for discarded plastics as a step toward realizing future circular economy. Our behavior as consumers will play a major part in achieving this goal. As an open platform to be used for a variety of purposes by a broad spectrum of companies and consumers involved with recycling chains, Blue Plastics will provide expertise in areas like recycle-chain visualization and proof of recycled-material content, helping to create an environment in which consumers feel comfortable using products derived from recycled materials
